New Tech Tool: Book Creator

LIS 568 Week 6: 6/30-7/6
This week, I decided to try out Book Creator while working on my website assignment. I chose to use Book Creator as a medium for making a choose-your-own adventure book for my website. I had never heard of or used Book Creator before, so I was looking forward to trying it out!
Initial Impressions
When I first visited the site, it was pretty easy to sign up and make an account. I immediately liked the simplicity of the user interface, since it was fairly straightforward and didn't have too much to look at. It was also easy to start my first book because it opened one for me. This book was a tutorial on how to use Book Creator, so it was very helpful! There were not too many buttons, so it wasn't overwhelming and it seemed easy to use.
Book Creating
As I started creating my book, I got the hang of Book Creator pretty fast. It was easy to add text and pictures and edit them. I really loved that there was a way to search for images within Book Creator rather than having to source them from Google images. This is a really great way for kids to find images that are appropriate for them if you wanted to have students create books. You also have the option to upload photos from elsewhere, so the options are endless!
I also enjoyed the "Library" feature, where you could store books that you make or books that are shared with you. This would be awesome if you wanted to have your students make books and then be able to read them and assess them. Book Creator is definitely kid-friendly in general, with the simple user interface and straightforward features.
Final Verdict
Overall, I think that Book Creator would be a great tool to use in a school library! It would be great for librarians who want to create custom books for students or for students completing assignments or just having fun. It's a great alternative to physically writing/drawing a book, and it is much more interesting than just typing out a story. The different features, like photos, book sharing, and more, make this a really great tool for any school library. The best part is that it's free to use, too!
