LIS 568 Week 11 (8/4-8/10)
This week, I decided to check out Copyright & Creativity: For Ethical and Digital Citizens. I learned about this website on a fellow classmate's blog, and I thought it sounded interesting! It seems like a very relevant topic, considering that we have recently finished our Digital Citizenship website project.
Copyright & Creativity, or C&C, is a website that offers resources to "provide accessible and practical information about copyright." C&C claims to offer information and tools that are actually useful and important. They are a non-profit project, and accept funding and donations from people who want to support their work. At first glance, this seems like a really awesome and helpful website for both educators and students! Considering that we discussed apprehensions and anxieties around copyright a few weeks ago, a resource that claims to share the information in an accessible and practical way sounds like it would be ideal for learning about copyright laws.
The resources are clearly separated into grade groups and uses like professional development, distance learning, and infographics, which makes them easy to locate and navigate. They share plenty of videos on different topics like creating and consuming content, legal and ethical use, and other relevant topics about copyright. The videos are both engaging and educational, offering information in short, manageable lessons. This is great for students since they often have shorter attention spans for content like this, so offering it in short bursts that they can remain present for is ideal.
Overall, C&C looks like an amazing, highly useful technology tool for students! I could definitely see how it should have a place in the school library since it contains lessons about copyright and information usage. These topics are extremely relevant in school libraries since the librarians are often the educators that are teaching that content. I would certainly use these videos to supplement lectures or activities in the library. C&C would be a really great resource!
